The masks of Pius Mastrogiacomo

The Masks of Pio Mastrogiacomo present a review of “human profiles.” Inspired by the Entrance of Christ into Brussels of Ensor, with its satirical grotesque and ironic representation of bourgeois society, the author in this bas-relief is not intended to represent the “masks” for their appearance precarious and ephemeral, but what they conceal . His wants to be a work of “unmasking” of the individual, taking advantage of the monstrosity of the soul, as shown in truth, no makeup moralistic conventional or opportunity. The work was carried out in Bormio where he went to work with his family in 1988. After a restoration, which is still being finalized, in fact, is in the process of restoring the word majolica “W the social”, the work is presented to the public for the first time in this blog. Seventy-six masks in earthenware that complete the “human mosaic”, fashioned one by one with bold and confident manner with which the artist gives form and substance to the essence of several people, The author wants to exorcise the ugliness of the “social” showing for those that are. As the African people tried to ward off evil and terror of nature with their masks, so the author is the “bad blood” to get rid of. As an investigator of impressions and emotions, exhibits different shades of the soul, captured in the life of every day, more and more like a mess which is to dominate the law of the “strongest”. Many types that emerge from the shadows as freaks: pimps, thieves, crooks that hide behind high-sounding titles of executives, managers, economists, ministers, primary, deprive the consciences and democracy. Below, we will proceed to examine the masks of Pio Mastrogiacomo dividing them into groups and describing the characteristics that they conceal.
